Regional BMPs, Field Manual, and Training for Stream Maintenance Activities

The purpose of this project is to create an integrated set of regional best management practices (BMPs), a standarized field manual, and consistent training for stream maintenance activities.  Regionally consistent materials will help maintain flood capacity, while also contributing to habitat protection and water quality.

The purpose of this project is to create an integrated set of regional best management practices (BMPs), a standarized field manual, and consistent training for stream maintenance activities. Creating these materials and the training will help ensure that field crews from multiple water districts and water agencies will be aware of state-of-the-art BMPs and know how to implement them. These materials and the training are needed to support a future regional general permit (RGP) under Section 404 of the Clean Water Act. BASMAA’s Operational Permits Committee (OPC) has been working for several years on a RGP from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers for flood control maintenance activities, but the project is taking a long time because of the need to coordinate input from the staff of six state and Federal regulatory agencies. The project is also needed so that maintenance crews are aware of the best way to maintain flood capacity while also protecting habitat and water quality.
