Construct multi-use flood control detention basins that allow continued use of detention basin land for agriculture to prevent flooding of adjacent land and Interstate 80. Flooding in this area flooded Interstate 80 in 1997 and 2005. Solano County and City of Fairfield have an interest in preserving this land in open space. Obtain permanent easements on land to assure future agricultural use of land.
Ledgewood Creek overflows its banks, north of Interstate 80 just outside the city of Fairfield. Flooding accumulates on adjacent agricultural land, flooding local roads and eventually Interstate 80 (in 1997 and 2005). In 2005 homes and businesses adjacent to Ledgewood Creek were also flooded. Interstate 80 is a major regional thoroughfare in the Region and any closing results in economic impacts as well as safety hazzards. The goal of the project is to utilize agricultural land to detain stormwater while allowing agriculture to continue. This preserves important agricultural land as well as providing needed stormwater detention. If the project is not completed, there will be continuing closures of Interstate 80 during large storms and flooding of local roadways, homes and businesses.
