The Adaptive Management Team (AMT) makes recommendations to Santa Clara Valley Water District based on the annual mitigation monitoring report prepared for the Guadalupe River (Downtown) and Guadalupe Creek Restoration Projects. If Santa Clara Valley Water District agrees with particular recommendations, projects to ensure that habitat (e.g., fisheries, riparian vegetation, SRA vegetation, etc.) is performing as intended would be undertaken by Santa Clara Valley Water District. The types of projects (if needed) will vary, but focus on any emerging habitat, water quality and erosion/sedimentation issues.
This is an innovative, collaborative approach to adaptive management of a major, urban, multi-objective flood protection project. The Downtown Guadalupe River project was completed in 2005, and it included flood protection to the 1% event and significant habitat - instream, streamside and upland - as well as aesthetic and recreational enhancements in downtown San Jose. In the years following completion of the project, the multi-agency Adaptive Management Team will oversee monitoring and any required remediation of the major functions of this showpiece project.
