To improve the overall accuracy and reliability of the District's Benchmark Elevation, the District surveys and updates elevations on over 1,000 benchmarks in Santa Clara County. The elevation information is available free of charge through the District's website in an interactive map-based or lookup program. Providing this service ensures a standard and accurate datum for all water resources projects in the county.
The goal for our vertical network is to establish and maintain a quality system throughout Santa Clara County. Reports are generated reflecting elevations in two different datums, National Geodetic Vertical Datum of 1929 (NGVD29), and North American Vertical Datum of 1988 (NAVD88) as means of transitioning to an NAVD88 system only in the near future.
