With the onset of the NPDES General Stormwater Permit, over fifteen years ago the City of South San Francisco stenciled its > 6000 public storm drains and catch basins with the message "No Dumping, Flows To The Bay ." Initially all-weather outdoor paint was used for this task. Within a couple of years, the painted / stenciled messages had become weathered and unreadable. This first generation of painted messages were replaced by themoplastic signage with the same message , as seen in the photo above. Now that a decade has passed the thermoplastic messages have aged, are chipped and once again are in need of replacement. Newer methods and products are available to enable the message whether stenciled or not, to endure all-weather conditions and last even longer than the themoplastic signage. The City of South San Francisco is seeking the assitance of the Bay Area IRWMP in providing our service area, with new and longer lasting pollution prevention signage for its storm drains and catch basins.
